Ceramic glazes are magic: here’s why

Yes, glazes are magic: A unique dip in a bowl of glaze or a mix of different ones, followed by a couple of hours of firing in the kiln and tchanaaaannn: magic happens. A simple piece of ceramics gets the most unexpected looks and styles.
In earthenware, the glazing process is a key-step that protects the ceramic body – which is by itself a porous and fragile material as you can read here– while it adds color and, as we usually say, personality and character. Of course, we know this process is not magic but pure chemistry, which takes a handful of experience and expert know-how to make it happen. Still, results are often impressive, and so we have selected a couple of the latest glazes presented in our designs.

Efeito Granito

Granite-like effect

Launched in the latest Hide&Seek’19 to explore the natural and earthy narrative presented in the collection, this glaze offers a visual effect that reminds us of granite or quartz. An effect possible thanks to a mix of techniques used during the glazing process (Know more about ceramics production process here.

Arenoso

Sandy Touch

A special glaze that offers the piece a sandy and gritty look, either in color or texture – a perfect option to meet the top trends of the season.

ferrugem

Rusty Iron

A combination having oxide glazes in its composition and the result is insane: ceramics that seems an old piece of iron. Another perfect option for your style stories, matching something like a new-rustic or modern classic style.

Renda

Ivory Lace

A technique that combines reactive glazes to get a delicate, gentle and feminine pattern, just like lace.

Cimento

Concrete Roughness

A type of engobe/slip glaze, this glaze offers the color and the texture making our designs just like concrete. Perfect to explore an industrial-look or to follow a mineral inspiration.

Reactivo

Planetary touch

Would you believe this is simply a glaze? Not simple though. A highly reactive glaze that reacts by ‘exploding’ during firing to create these moon-like craters. A powerful solution to explore a cosmic and planetary interior style.
