Arfai is reducing its environmental footprint every day with little big steps. The ceramics industry is not 100% green, but we use a natural resource – clay – to create timeless and long lasting pieces. Find out some of the improvements we made to minimize our enviromental impact!
Commitment to the environment
Assuming a strict compliance with the environmental law, Arfai is more and more committed to minimize the environmental impact of its industrial activity to become a greener factory.
2014 | Construction of a WWTP for the treatment and reuse of industrial waters. 87% of the annual water consumed on-production is from this system.
2019 | The installation of a Self-Consumption Production Unit is a project that allows the company to produce energy from a renewable resource (the sun), powering the system for self-consumption and reducing the energy spent from the public grid. The Unit now installed counts with 239 photovoltaic panels and total power of 74.09 kWp. Technical details that translated mean an esteemed production of 102 000 kWp a year – almost half of the company’s average annual consumption.
Clay is our primary raw material. An abundant natural resource that we have at our disposal in our region, allowing us to choose local suppliers.
Due to its composition, this is a material that can be stored and reused (before firing), avoiding waste and allowing to preserve natural resources as much as possible.
As a result of our production process, not all materials are liable to be recycled and reused in the factory.
The materials we cannot reuse, as ceramics or plaster, are collected by a certified company to treat and reuse in other industries.
Development of new decorative solutions with minimal use of chemicals.
On packaging, we always opt for recycled card instead of plastic.
More than 2 tons of paper/card are recycled per year.
The ceramics industry, being such a traditional industry, still has long steps to reduce its environmental footprint. For Arfai, this is one of the main goals of the business and, therefore, it is adapting its production process in order to reduce the impact of its activity on our environment, maintaining the authenticity that characterizes it.
