Wandering between Camões and the Ceramics of Alcobaça

Now, whoever stops at Alcobaça has a new reason to fall in love with the city. “Pedro & Inês In Alcobaça Ceramics” is a new walking route in the city center that invites pedestrians to learn the love poems of Inês de Castro, integrated in the Portuguese masterpiece “Os Lusíadas”, written by Luís Vaz de Camões.

Promoted by the City Hall, this initiative challenged some ceramics factories located in the area to translate into ceramics the love story of Pedro and Inês, symbols of the Portuguese History who are immortalized in the Monastery of Alcobaça.

Arfai took, of course, part in the event creating an art installation to represent the 5th part of this literary composition – the speech of Inês to the King. The work proposes to materialize in ceramics the spectrum of emotions present in the words of the princess.

The route, located on the sidewalk of the Alcoa River, makes also references to a sonnet written by the same author and to other written by Miguel Torga.

Arfai thanks the City Hall for the chance to take part in this unique idea that reminds and promotes Alcobaça as the land of ceramics
